Cyclist Miriam Nunez (Massy-Tactic), Ecuadorian time trial champion, received the first yellow jersey of the Women’s Tour of Portugal after winning the prologue today in Lisbon.
Miriam Nunez covered the 5.3-kilometer course in Lisbon’s Monsanto district in 8.04 minutes, leaving Britain’s Freya Rawlins (Soltec Team Costa Calida) in second place, just 12 hundredths behind. In third place was Russian Valeria Valgonen (Massi-Tactic), 51 hundredths behind her teammate.
All three will go to the first stage, which takes place this Thursday, at the same time, but with the Ecuadorian in the yellow jersey.
“The time trial was very tough, the whole course was demanding. Not only the climbs, but also some turns where the slightest mistake could ruin everything. I tried to win the race for a long time, in Italy and France. , but victory came today, in Portugal. Now, since I have the yellow jersey, I will try to finish the job,” Miriam Nunez emotionally promised.
The first yellow jersey of the Women’s Tour of Portugal, which runs from today to Sunday, was “very happy” and grateful for the support she received from her director.
“I dedicate this victory to the team and, above all, to my country, Ecuador, and my family,” the runner concluded.
Beatriz Roxo (UCI Cantabria Deporte-Rio Miera) was the best Portuguese of the day, setting the fourth fastest time with 8.14 minutes, 10 seconds faster than the first three.
The white jersey awarded to the best junior of the competition belongs to Marta Carvalho (Extremosul-Hotel Alisios-CA Terras do Arade), who finished 29th overall with a score of 8.42.
The first stage will take place on Thursday: runners will start from the municipal swimming pools of Portela in the municipality of Lores and arrive at Alves Redol street in Vila Franca de Xira, a total distance of 85 kilometers.
