The armed forces lose millions of euros every year because their assets are not properly monetized in accordance with the Military Infrastructure Act. One of the main obstacles to good revenue collection is the government itself, which does not pay rent as its own tenant. We are talking about the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI).
According to Visão magazine, there are several illegal situations involving real estate, including property belonging to the Ministry of Defense, the former Northern Bomber Command Post, located in Quinta da Marinha, in Cascais, from which he never received income. . .
According to a document from the General Directorate of National Defense Resources published by Visão, the highest debt is two million euros and relates to the use of the PSP of the Alto do Duque fort in Lisbon.
Another case, ongoing for several years, involves the Campolide Campus building at Universidade Nova de Lisboa, a building that was transferred through a phased payment of $15 million. The debt currently stands at eight million euros.
There are more cases where defense assets are not being monetized properly, including an affordable rental project for military buildings that has been stalled due to issues with PDMs and conflicts between government institutions.
