Colombian artist Fernando Botero reportedly died this Friday at the age of 91. El Pais. The artist and sculptor, who devoted himself to art for more than 70 years, died at home in Monaco.
In 2012, Botero exhibited in Lisbon. 27 canvases and 34 works on paper.as part of the visit of the President of Colombia, at that time Juan Manuel Santos to Portugal. In the capital, you can see the bronze sculpture “Motherhood” at the top of Edward VII Park.
Botero was born in Colombia in 1932 and was one of the most important contemporary artists in the entire world.
Botero’s work is in various collections around the world, from the Botero Museum in Bogotá, Colombia, to the Guggenheim Museum in New York and the Center Georges Pompidou in Paris.
During his career, Botero received several awards and honors, such as the National Arts Prize of Colombia in 2000 and the National Order of the Legion of Honor of France in 2004.
