One of the three Leopard 2 battle tanks that Portugal sent to Ukraine is being successfully used in the counter-offensive of Kyiv troops in Russian-occupied territories. The combat vehicle, provided by the Portuguese army, is in service with the 47th Mechanized Brigade, which took part in the capture of the town of Robotin in the Zaporozhye region at the end of August.
The reconquest of Robotin came after several attacks on the outskirts of this southern Ukrainian city, which were still occupied by Russian troops.
Created after the outbreak of war, in February 2022, the 47th Mechanized Brigade is an assault unit whose first task was to control the Vuglekhirskaya area, near Bakhmut.
The arrival of three Portuguese tanks in Ukraine was reported in March this year by the German magazine Der Spiegel, and later confirmed by the Ministry of National Defense.
Portugal’s support for the Ukrainian military effort was recognized this Friday by the Kyiv Ministry of Defense. In a video post made on a social network.
