The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) has dismissed German coach Stefan Kunz as national coach, the federation body announced this Wednesday, a day after rejecting this scenario, without providing any information about his successor.
“Following an assessment meeting today with the national team coach, the TFF board of directors has decided to suspend Stefan Kuntz,” whose contract expires in 2024, the Turkish federation said in a statement.
The challenge for 60-year-old Kunz, who has been Turkey’s coach since September 2021, has intensified following the 1-1 draw with Armenia in a 2024 European Championship qualifier and defeat to Japan. 4-2 in personal match.
Turkey, which failed to qualify for the 2022 World Cup, tops Group D in qualifying for the 2024 European Championship, tied on points with Croatia but having played one more game, and will face the Balkan side in the next round.
