Nuno Sousa Guedes missed a last-minute penalty and Portugal missed out on their first World Cup win this Saturday when Georgia scored in the 78th minute to make it 18-18.
Georgia dominated most of the first half of the Group C match, with Tedo Abzhandadze extending their lead to 13-0, Reuters reported.
Portugal began their comeback towards the end of the first half when Raffaele Storti showed excellent dodging skills and scored to make it 13-5 at the break.
The Portuguese side dominated the second half and were rewarded with two penalties from Samuel Marques before Storti scored again to take an 18-13 lead.
Tengizi Zamtaradze converted a late corner and equalized the score, but Luka Matkava converted the ball wide of the goal.
Portugal attacked again, but as Marques left the field, defender Guedes took a difficult shot but missed the ball.
