The world’s largest flower smells like “rotting meat” and may be endangered, according to scientists. Rafflesia Arnoldi, also known as the “corpse flower”, is found in Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines and is used for medicinal purposes. It can reach one meter in diameter and has a reddish color.
The flower is often used to enhance fertility, treat fevers and back pain, and even create an energy drink.
In accordance with Sky News, Experts estimate that two-thirds of these flowers are at “serious risk” of extinction due to factors such as deforestation and lack of seed banking and propagation.
“A combined strategy could save some of the world’s most famous flowers, most of which are currently on the brink of extinction,” they explain, quoted Heavenly news.
