Federation confirms: Russia is not participating in football Euro 2024

The Russian Football Federation announced on Tuesday that Russia, which has consistently been suspended from international sporting events due to its invasion of Ukraine, is not participating in the draw for the 2024 European Championship qualifying round in Germany.

“The Russian team will not participate in the draw for the qualifying round of the European Championship 2024, which will be held on October 9 in Frankfurt, Germany,” the message says.

Russian officials justify this by “UEFA’s decision in February to suspend the participation of national teams and Russian clubs in the competitions it organizes.”

The Russian national team has already prevented FIFA and UEFA from participating in the playoffs of the World Cup qualification in Qatar. Russian clubs have also been banned from playing in the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League. These measures are a response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
