This Saturday, in the sixth round of the French Football League, Brest won 1:0 against Lyon, scoring a goal three minutes before the end of normal time and, contrary to all expectations, taking the lead.
The goal that decided the match came in the 87th minute from Benin striker Steve Mooney, who uncontrollably headed home a cross into the penalty area.
Although late, a goal from non-title contenders Brest eventually brought justice to the scoreboard, rewarding the team that was leading the game and creating several opportunities to end the match early.
Lyon’s eleven included two Portuguese players: goalkeeper Anthony Lopes, who played the full 90 minutes, and striker Diego Moreira, who trained at Benfica, who was replaced in the 52nd minute by striker Tino Kadewere from Zimbabwe.
In the other sixth round match this Saturday, Nantes hosted and beat Lorient 5-3.
Brest is in the lead alone, with 13 points, and there is no way to catch up with it in this round. They are followed by Nice with 12, Monaco with 11 and fourth-placed Marseille with nine, who travel to the Parc des Princes on Sunday to face fifth-placed Paris Saint-Germain with eight.
