PSP recorded more than 7 thousand violations during the 2022/23 sports season

The last sports season ended with a total of 7,579 violations, of which 1,480 were non-compliances and 6,099 were incidents, the Public Security Police (PSP) reported this Monday, with pyrotechnic artifacts topping the list.

“The number of violations has increased significantly compared to the 2021/2022 sports season, with 2,137 more violations recorded than in the previous year,” the PSP said in a statement.

The main incidents recorded were: possession/use of pyrotechnic devices (2918), administrative offenses by the prosecutor (1464), insults or threats (468), causing damage (382) and violations of physical integrity (307).

“With regard to the PSP area of responsibility, violations predominate at sports venues, accounting for 73.63% of the total number of registered violations,” the police department said, emphasizing that “the increase in the number of violations is accompanied by an increase in police performance.”

At the same time, PSP stated that “increased operational results and training processes lead to improved police performance and, as a result, an increased ability to classify and record violations confirmed within sporting events.”

On the other hand, “the quality of work performed by the sports information departments (UID) and the National Sports Information Center (PNID) in preparing intelligence reports, as well as the ability to anticipate certain incidents, are factors that may explain the numbers recorded in the sports season under analysis,” – emphasized in the PSP.

On Wednesday, a reserved forum will take place in Baleal in Peniche as part of the sports police carried out by the PSP for the 2022/2023 sports season.
