According to IPMA, an earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale was felt this Monday at 16:44 on the island of Terceira in the Azores. At 16:47 a new shock was recorded, this time with a magnitude of 4.0 on the Richter scale.
The epicenter of the two seismic events was in the Serra de Santa Barbara, in the municipality of Angra do Heroísmo.
The report said the tremors were felt by the local population, who reported seeing several pieces of furniture and utensils shaking in homes in the region. CM.
There are no reports of damage or casualties yet.
In the next half hour, according to the Azores Center for Seismic Volcanic Information and Observation (CIVISA), two more earthquakes occurred: one with an intensity of 2.2 on the Richter scale at 16:53 local time and another with a magnitude of 2.5. :18 pm.
The tremors are part of seismic activity from the Santa Barbara volcano, a mountain range in the island’s interior that has seen energy release peaks at above-normal levels over the past three months. Despite this, CIVISA has not yet declared a seismic volcanic alert (it remains at level V2, with V4 being the maximum).
