The European Commission launched a digital services law transparency database on Tuesday, which aims to ensure digital platforms such as social media provide “clear and specific information” to their users, taking into account new community legislation.
“Under the Digital Services Act, all IT service providers [plataformas de grande dimensão] are required to provide users with clear and specific information, known as a notice, whenever they remove or restrict access to certain content. The new database will collect these explanations of causes,” the institution said in a statement.
With the European Union’s (EU) world-first rules for online platforms coming into force a month ago, the database is becoming an “unprecedented regulatory repository where data on data moderation decisions of content accepted by active providers in the EU is available to the general public” on an unprecedented scale and clarity, allowing for greater online accountability,” Brussels notes.
