The president of the Tigres football club, Edgar Paes Cortes, was killed this Saturday after the club’s defeat in the Colombian second division by Atlético Madrid with a score of 2-3. The news was released by the club in a statement on X/Twitter.
In accordance with Globus SportEdgar Paez Cortes, 63, was returning home in a car with his daughter when he was killed by two men riding a motorcycle.
“It is with deep sadness and horror that we inform you of the murder of the president of our institution, Dr. Edgar Páez Cortes,” the statement said.
In the same note, the club refers to Cortes as a “passionate football advocate and exemplary leader.”
“His dedication to the team and his dedication to growing the sport in our region left an unforgettable mark on all who had the honor of meeting him.”
The club ends the note by thanking the media for their respect “during this difficult time” and saying that the authorities are looking into the matter.
