Roma, coached by Portuguese coach Jose Mourinho, played one of their worst games in recent memory in Genoa this Thursday, being humiliated 4-1 in the sixth round of the Italian Football League.
The advanced Genoese “did not spare” the Wolf team, they made good use of the opponent’s defensive mistakes and could even win with a big advantage.
The Romans drop to 16th place with five points, two above the relegation line, while Genoa rise to 11th with seven points.
Mourinho lost the title for the third time this season. The Portuguese ended in defeat in half of their games, which was the worst start for a Portuguese coach.
Rui Patricio was Roma’s goalkeeper and was surprised by Albert Gudmundsson’s shot five minutes later.
At 22, Cristante equalized and it was believed that the visitors would fight for victory.
But Genoa took the lead again just before the break thanks to a fine understanding between Gudmundsson and Morten Thorsby, capped by Mateo Retegui’s half-volley.
Roma then ensured their dominance in midfield, but left too much space in defense, which Thorsby (74) and Junior Messias (81) took advantage of to add weight to the result.
The “discomfort” of the Rome team was particularly evident at the Stadio Luigi-Ferraris: Francesco Totti, a Roman football legend who was present in the seats of honour, left the stadium after the locals’ fourth goal.
Mourinho’s team is already 10 points behind leaders Inter and just two points ahead of the relegation place.
The rest of the matches of the day were draws: 0:0 in Monza’s match (with Dani Mota) against Bologna and 1:1 in Frosinone’s match with Fiorentina.
