At least 52 people were killed and more than 50 injured in a suicide attack in Pakistan.

At least 52 people were killed and more than 50 injured this Friday in a suicide attack near a religious demonstration in Balochistan province in southern Pakistan.

“The bomb exploded near the deputy police chief’s vehicle,” Deputy Inspector General of Police Munir Ahmed told Reuters.

The blast occurred near a mosque in Balochistan province where people had gathered for a procession to mark Muhammad’s birthday, a public holiday, Munir Ahmed added.

According to Reuters, Pakistan has seen a resurgence in attacks by Islamic militants since last year, when a ceasefire between the government and the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), an organization of several hard-line Sunni Islamic groups, ended. .

The TTP denies carrying out the attack.
