Al-Hilal, coached by Portuguese Jorge Jesus, defeated Al-Shabab 2-0 this Friday in the eighth round of the Saudi Football League to take the championship lead.
With Portugal international Ruben Neves in the starting line-up, Al Hilal converted a penalty in the 37th minute, with Brazil’s Neymar missing the goal but managing to take the lead in the second half.
The first goal came in the 68th minute from Senegalese defender Coulibaly, assisted by Neymar, and Serbian striker Aleksandar Mitrovic added the result in the 76th minute.
With this triumph, Jorge Jesus’ side took advantage of Nuno Espirito Santo’s Al Ittihad draw at Al Fayhi (0-0) to take the lead in the championship with 20 points from eight games.
Al Ittihad is second with 19 points, as is Al Taawon, while Al Nasr, led by Luis Castro, Cristiano Ronaldo and Otavio, is fourth with 18 points.
This Friday Al Nasr beat Al Tay 2:1, with Cristiano Ronaldo again playing a decisive role.
Luis Castro’s side took the lead thanks to a goal from Brazilian Talischi in the 32nd minute after an assist from the Portuguese striker.
In the second half, Al-Thai leveled the score at 79 thanks to a goal from Dutchman Virgil Misigian, while Al-Nasr’s winning goal was scored on 87 by Cristiano Ronaldo from a penalty kick.
