The Spanish footballers Alexia Putellas, Irene Paredes and Misa Rodriguez confirmed this Monday before the judge the pressure that their teammate Jenny Hermoso suffered from Luis Rubiales.
Three national team players confirmed the situation to the National Audience judge, who is investigating the case of the former president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) on suspicion of crimes of sexual abuse and coercion against Jenny Hermoso, noting that her teammate and those closest to her, the leader, pressured some so that they could say that the gesture was consensual.
The players who were at the 2023 World Cup, which Spain won and at the end of which Rubiales kissed without consent, according to Jenny Hermoso herself, gave statements this Monday for about an hour.
Putellas and Irene Paredes made statements via video conference from court premises in Barcelona, while Real Madrid’s Misa Rodriguez spoke at the National Audience in Madrid.
As part of the investigation into the allegations against Rubiales, former national team coach Jorge Wilda and the federation’s marketing director Ruben Rivera are scheduled to be heard on October 10, and team director Albert Luque on October 16.
Hearings are scheduled for later this month on Oct. 20 and 27 with men’s team coach Luis de la Fuente, former communications director, Rubiales’ office counsel, and other witnesses.
Rubiales appeared at the hearing on September 15, where he answered questions about the claims against him for 45 minutes.
The final, played in Sydney, was marked by a kiss on the lips given to player Jenny Hermoso by then RFEF president during victory celebrations at Sydney Stadium, which the striker confirmed was not consented to.
Rubiales’ behavior earned him disciplinary proceedings by the Spanish Administrative Sports Court and FIFA, which suspended him for 90 days.
The player, in turn, filed a complaint of sexual abuse by Rubiales, who initially refused to resign from the RFEF but eventually did so on September 10.
