Fire danger in rural areas will gradually increase until Saturday

The risk of rural fires will gradually increase until Saturday after rising maximum temperatures, which could reach 38 degrees in Santarem on Friday, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).

This Wednesday, IPMA placed the municipalities of Monchique, Portimão, Silves, Loule, Tavira and São Bras de Alportel in the Faro district at maximum risk of rural fires.

On Friday, IPMA forecast maximum temperatures could reach 38 degrees Celsius in Santarem, 37 degrees in Setúbal and 36 degrees in Évora and Beja.

This fire risk, defined by the IPMA, has five levels, ranging from low to maximum. Calculations are based on air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed and precipitation over the last 24 hours.

IPMA is forecasting clear to clear skies for the continent this Wednesday, with morning clouds in parts of the western coastal strip, generally light winds that could be strong in the highlands until mid-morning, and a drop in maximum temperatures in the Algarve. .

The minimum temperature will range from 12 degrees Celsius (in Guarda) to 22 degrees Celsius (in Portalegre), and the maximum temperature will range from 25 (in Porto and Aveiro) to 34 degrees (in Évora and Beja).
