On Wednesday, the PS defeated in parliament all legislative initiatives that proposed a gradual restoration of teachers’ work experience, one of the main demands of teachers.
The Bloc de Esquerda (BE) bill, which envisaged a phased restoration until 2026 with 2,393 days still to be counted, received the support of the BE, Chegi, PCP, PAN and Livre and abstained from the PSD and the Liberals. The initiative, but ultimately failed: PS voted against.
The result of the vote on Cega’s initiative, which set a shorter deadline until the end of next year, was identical, but the Liberal Initiative also voted against this proposal and the PCP and Livre abstained.
On Tuesday, the PS already ruled out the possibility of restoring seniority, recalling as an alternative the mechanisms recently approved by the government to accelerate career growth.
The return of hours worked is one of the main reasons for the protest that has been seen in schools since late last year, but the Executive has consistently rejected it and on Monday the Prime Minister confirmed the cost would be “unacceptable”. For the country.”
Four draft resolutions were also voted on. The PAN’s recommendation to review the new teaching staff management and recruitment regime was rejected by the PS, while the PCP’s initiative to take measures to strengthen teaching and non-teaching staff was opposed by the PS and the Liberal Initiative.
Two of Livre’s draft resolutions – on linking, accounting for teaching service time and ending barriers to career advancement, and on assessing and qualifying the careers of technical and operational assistants – were rejected, with only the Socialists voting against.
