FIFA confirms all 2030 World Cup hosts will automatically qualify

FIFA clarified this Saturday that Portugal, Spain and Morocco, the hosts of the competition, in addition to Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay, the hosts of the century, automatically qualify for the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

FIFA on Wednesday decided to entrust the organization of the 2030 World Cup to Portugal, Spain and Morocco, and also promoted a dispute over three games in Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay to celebrate the centenary of the competition, the first edition of which was played. on Uruguayan soil.

“Morocco, Portugal and Spain, as hosts of the tournament, as well as Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay, as hosts of the centenary celebrations, automatically qualify based on the quota for the distribution of seats of the respective confederations,” reads the FIFA decision, according to which it will be officially announced at the extraordinary congress , which will take place in 2024.

In response to several questions about the 2030 FIFA World Cup, FIFA also advanced part of the competition schedule, ensuring that the calendar of games will be “adapted” to provide rest days for teams participating in the centenary celebrations in South America.

“The three games played in South America will be rescheduled a few days before the official World Cup opening games in Morocco, Portugal and Spain,” the same statement said.

On June 8 and 9, 2030, the centenary celebration ceremony and the first matches will take place: the Uruguay team will play in Montevideo, and Argentina and Paraguay will play at home.

Next Thursday and Friday, 13 and 14 June 2030, the opening ceremony and matches of the 2030 FIFA World Cup will take place.

On June 15 and 16, the corresponding matches of the remaining teams from the groups of Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay will be held.

Next Friday, June 21, 2030, the second games will begin for all teams in those teams’ groups.

The World Cup final is scheduled for July 21, 2030, Sunday.

FIFA also assured that it will take all necessary measures to “mitigate the environmental impact” of the competition, which will feature 101 games in Portugal, Spain and Morocco, as well as three games in South America, for a total of 104 games.

“Morocco, Portugal and Spain will host the 2030 FIFA World Cup. Thus, in the 101st game, the tournament will be held in a group of neighboring countries, geographically very close and with extensive and well-developed infrastructure and transport links. Portugal will make their World Cup debut after hosting Euro 2004, Spain Euro 1964 and the 1982 World Cup, while Morocco hosted the African Cup of Nations (CAN) in 1988.

For the first time, the World Cup will be split between six countries, with Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay hosting three games to “celebrate the centenary” of the competition, which was first held on Uruguayan soil in 1930. .
