This Sunday, UEFA postponed some meetings of Israeli football teams in October, including the meeting between Israel and Switzerland from Group I qualifying for Euro 2024, due to the armed conflict between Israel and the Islamic group Hamas.
In a statement published this Sunday, the body that oversees football in Europe justifies its decision on the “current situation” in Israel following the Hamas attack on Israeli territory on Saturday, promising to announce new dates for the games in due course.
In addition to this game, previously scheduled for October 12, UEFA has postponed Israel’s under-21 team’s matches against Estonia, also scheduled for October 12, and Germany on October 17, as well as the national under-17 mini-tournament involving Israel , Belgium, Wales and Gibraltar.
The organization will wait a few more days until it decides whether the Kosovo-Israel meeting from Group I of the Euro 2024 qualifiers on October 15 will take place as planned or will be postponed.
“UEFA will continue to monitor the situation and will be in contact with all teams involved before making decisions on new dates and possible changes to other scheduled games,” the statement also said.
