Portuguese footballer Miguel Vitor, who plays for Hapoel Be’er Sheva, said this Monday that he is waiting for a flight to leave Israel due to the attacks carried out on Saturday by the Islamic group Hamas in Israel.
“I’m currently waiting for a flight to Portugal to join my family. But my heart and thoughts remain with my friends and with all the people of Israel. It’s hard to find words to describe the anger and sadness I feel because none of them seem enough,” the defender wrote on his Instagram account.
Miguel Vitor, who has played for the Israeli club since the 2016/17 season, believes that the country “does not deserve to go through this.” “Israeli children and young people do not deserve to live in fear and lose hope for a happy future,” he added.
The 34-year-old defender ensures his thoughts are “with the victims, their families and friends” and asks everyone to “face the days ahead with courage.”
The Islamic group Hamas launched a surprise attack into Israel on Saturday dubbed Al-Aqsa Storm, firing thousands of rockets and invading armed militias by land, sea and air.
In response to the surprise attack, Israel air-bombed several Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip in an operation dubbed Operation Iron Swords.
In the latest report, the Israeli Ministry of Health estimated that the number of deaths in Israel from the Hamas attack exceeded 700, with 2,243 injured, 365 of them in a condition considered serious.
