Judo Federation President Jorge Fernandes was removed from office after an extraordinary general meeting of the Federation unanimously approved his resignation.
According to Renaissance, with reference to the statement of the Federation🇧🇷 about 45 delegates voted in favour, one abstained and no one voted against.
In recent months, the former president of the federation has been involved in several disputes, in particular with a group of Olympic athletes. Nevertheless, the departure of the president is not connected with the complaints of the judokas.
In accordance with Article 51 of the Legal Regime of Sports Federations (RJFD), a mandate may be forfeited whenever ” after the elections are placed in a position that makes them incompetent or in respect of which one of the inconsistencies provided for by law or the charter is found.
According to the IPDJ cited by Lusa, the dismissal is thus due to an incompatibility of functions, since Jorge Fernandes held a position in the Judo Club of Coimbra, which was complained about by the Judo Association of Castelo Branco.
It should be remembered that Jorge Fernandes has already stated that if he is removed, he will run for office again.
The date of the early elections will be announced soon.
