Bruno Fernandes says a place in the Portugal national team is ‘more and more expensive’

Footballer Bruno Fernandes said this Thursday that a place in the Portuguese national team is becoming “increasingly expensive” given the investments “of clubs in youth teams”, but he wants to be present at the 2030 World Cup, organized by Portugal, Spain and Morocco.

The Manchester United player from England, one of the most influential in the team led by Roberto Martinez, spoke about the Ibero-Moroccan organization and did not hide his desire to represent the Kinas team at this event.

“I don’t think about stopping [carreira], but the place is getting more and more expensive. Clubs are increasingly investing in youth teams to attract more players. [à seleção]. At that time [do Mundial2030] it will be even more expensive, but if I am able, and it is at a level that is minimally acceptable for staying here, I hope to be there. Representing a team at major competitions and in your country is something special. I hope to be present,” the midfielder said at a press conference.

On the eve of a new meeting with Slovakia in the seventh round of Group J of Euro 2024 qualifying, 29-year-old Bruno Fernandes recalled the fortuitous victory in the first round in Bratislava, where Portugal struggled to come away with three points. and an indestructible lighthouse.

“They are a very intense team with very quality players in possession. Without the ball, they are organized defensively and it is very difficult to penetrate into interior spaces, which we often use in the team. This was one of the difficulties we faced there. [em Bratislava]. They can create problems on the counter-attack because when the ball comes out they take a lot of risks by playing from behind,” he analyzed.

Despite having 18 points from a possible 18, with 24 goals scored and zero goals conceded, there is “always room for improvement,” according to Bruno Fernandes.

“We can score more goals and play better. We played a competent and serious game there.” [em Bratislava], but not at the level of what we want. Tomorrow [sexta-feira]We will do everything to become better,” he said.

He concluded by admitting that the group’s rivals “are not that strong on paper”, but he remembers that “it’s 11 versus 11 on the pitch and that football has already brought so many surprises because it’s so unpredictable.”

In case of victory, Portugal automatically guarantees access to the final stage of the next European Championship, which will be held in Germany. On Monday the national team plays in Bosnia and Herzegovina at 19:45 (Lisbon time).

After six rounds, Portugal retain their overall victory and top Group J with 18 points, five more than second-place Slovakia. Luxembourg is third with 10 points, followed by Bosnia and Iceland (both with six) and Liechtenstein, still without points.

In addition to six victories in the same number of matches, Roberto Martinez’s team has a record of 24 goals scored and not a single one conceded.

In November, Portugal will close out the qualifying round with a trip to Liechtenstein and an invitation to Iceland.

The first two places in the group give direct access to the final phase of Euro 2024.
