US says North Korea has transferred weapons to Russia

The White House said this Friday that North Korea has delivered more than a thousand containers of military equipment and ammunition to Russia to help in the war in Ukraine.

Rumors about a possible North Korean plan to replenish Russian ammunition stockpiles depleted by the war with Ukraine began last month when North Korean leader Kim Jong Un traveled to Russia to meet with President Vladimir Putin.

This Friday, White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said the US believes Kim intends to obtain sophisticated Russian weapons technology in exchange for ammunition to boost North Korea’s nuclear program.

The White House released images showing the containers were loaded onto a Russian-flagged ship and then sent by train to southwest Russia.

The containers were sent between September 7 and October 1 between Najin, North Korea, and Danube, Russia, according to the White House.

Previously, the United States accused North Korea of supplying Russia with ammunition, artillery shells and missiles.

Last month, the North Korean leader, after a meeting with Putin, called for an exponential increase in nuclear weapons production and for his country to play a larger role in the coalition of countries opposing the United States in a “new Cold War.” .

In Russia, Kim has deepened “friendly and friendly ties” with Putin, North Korean state media reported.

During Kim’s six-day trip to Russia – his longest overseas trip as leader – the two countries admitted they discussed strengthening their defense ties.
