The young man who died after being hit with a bottle this Saturday in Bairro Alto in Lisbon was part of a gang of robbers and was killed while robbing a tourist. The family denies this and claims that Daniel Galhanas was killed while trying to protect a friend who, in fact, was accused of robberies.

“It was in a group at the intersection of Calçada do Combro and Largo do Calhares on Saturday at 4:30 am that Daniel saw a man he knew, accused of robbery in the areas of Baixa, Bairro Alto and Cais. In Sodra, as the PSP and judicial police have already informed the family, they are quarreling and are being attacked by a group of Englishmen,” says the source.
A close relative of Daniel Galhanas confirmed that he had already received information from the judicial police that the main suspect in the murder was an English citizen.
And he describes in detail what happened: “An Englishman throws a glass bottle at his friend, who breaks it. The same killer man picks up the glass shards and hits Daniel, who was standing in front of his friend to protect him.”
“A group of Englishmen escape and are pursued by Daniel’s friends. As you can see in the video, he was left unconscious with his friend,” he explains.
Daniel Galhanas, 19, was left bleeding on the sidewalk as the suspects fled. The young man with signs of life was taken to the San Jose hospital, but he died.
