11 Palestinian journalists have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the conflict began

The Union of Palestinian Journalists reported this Monday that 11 Palestinian media workers have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the war between Israel and Hamas began on the 7th of this month.

The statement from the union, based in the occupied West Bank, also said 20 journalists were injured “as a result of Israeli aggression” in the Gaza Strip.

According to Hamas, which has held power in the Gaza Strip since 2007 and is considered a “terrorist movement” by the European Union (EU) and the United States, some 2,750 people have been killed and more than 9,700 injured in Israeli attacks on the Palestinian territory. , United.

For its part, the Israeli government confirmed on Sunday that some 1,400 people were killed and more than 3,500 wounded in Israel after the Hamas attack, while the army reported nearly 200 hostages being held by the Islamist movement.

Also on Sunday, the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) reported that at least 12 journalists have been killed, two more missing and eight injured since the conflict between Hamas and the Israeli military began.

At the time, CPJ reported that the dead included ten Palestinian journalists, an Israeli journalist and another missing person, as well as one person killed in attacks in southern Lebanon.

The count includes those killed up to October 14, the first eight days of the conflict, explains the CJP, which warns of a “particularly high danger” affecting journalists in the Gaza Strip, “given the risk of a ground attack by Israeli forces.” .

CPJ also warned of “devastating” Israeli airstrikes, “impossibility” of communications and “rolling” power outages.

“These are civilians who are doing important work during a crisis and should not be attacked by parties to the conflict,” said CPJ Middle East and North Africa coordinator Sherif Mansour, calling on both sides to take measures to ensure safety.
