Porto and Benfica will play in the Portuguese Cup with teams from the fourth division

Porto, winners of the last two editions, and Benfica, record title holders, will begin their participation in the Portuguese Cup this Friday against Vilar de Perdizes and Lusitania respectively, teams in the fourth division.

In the third round of the competition, which marks the entry into battle of all teams of the first league, the “dragons” will compete with Vilar de Perdizes, who currently ranks sixth in Serie A of the Portuguese Championship.

FC Porto, with 19 sceptres and having won the last two editions, beating Tondela (2021/22) and Sporting de Braga (2022/23) in the final, will face the opponent who defeated Vasco da Gama da Vidigueira , also from the fourth level with a score of 5-1 to reach this stage.

The game will take place at the Estadio Municipal Chaves and kicks off at 20:45, after Benfica began their participation with the visit of the Azoreans from Lusitania, in a game scheduled for 15:30 local time (4:30: 15:00 in Lisbon ) at the Joao Paulo II stadium in Angra do Heroismo.

Benfica, which holds the record number of titles (26) but has not won the competition since the 2016/17 season, will face Serie C leaders Portugal, which eliminated Marialvas from Coimbra County with a 1-0 win in the previous round. .

Also this Friday, Portimonense from Liga I will meet Sporting da Covilhã from Liga III in a game scheduled for 19:00. The Mountain team beat Lusitano de Évora of the Portuguese Championship in the previous round in a game decided in a penalty shootout.
