International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach said this Monday that Paris 2024 will be a “great opportunity” for humanity to “unite in a pacifist competition” at a time when the world is increasingly showing itself to be “divided.”
“The Olympic Games will be a great opportunity for everyone to unite in pacifist competition in this divided world full of wars and confrontation,” the German leader said in Montevideo.
Bach, speaking at the Uruguay Olympic Committee’s centenary ceremony, stressed the need for humanity to engage in dialogue and contribute to greater global peace, recalling in this regard that athletes are “great ambassadors of peace and friendship.”
