Marc Giu, a 17-year-old Barcelona player, was living a fairy tale last Sunday. Coach Xavi Hernandez made his debut in the 79th minute of the game against At Bilbao, when the result froze at a stable score of 0:0. He needed just 33 seconds on the field and two touches of the ball to score the goal that sealed the game. And guaranteed victory for Barcelona (1-0).
The move was facilitated by Joao Felix, who at the end of a superb performance provided a “deadly” assist to the young debutant, who could hardly believe what was happening to him. “I’m not myself. I just wanna feel this moment. This is something you can never imagine. But I worked my whole life to have this opportunity,” he said at the end of the game.
An image of Marc Guiu’s mother crying with emotion on a bench has gone viral. And it’s not a matter of less.
A Spain Under-17 international, Giu arrived at Barcelona in 2013 and is under contract until 2025. He has scored seven goals for the youth team this season. He also played two games in the Youth League, two more for Barcelona B.
