New research suggests pedophiles used artificial intelligence (AI) to create child pornography. More than 3,000 images of child abuse were posted on online forums.
The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) conducted a series of studies into the use of artificial intelligence to create and distribute child pornography content and concluded that approximately 3,000 images of child abuse were published on dark web forums. This content includes sexual rape and torture, warranting Heavenly news.
Researchers encounter montages so convincing that they are difficult to distinguish from real photographs. Analysts warn that these technological systems will continue to evolve, presenting increasing challenges for police and the justice system. Some of the images analyzed showed real children, but the content was edited to make it appear as if the children were not wearing clothes. Images of public figures who were made younger with the help of AI were also found.
IWF CEO Susie Hargreaves argues that European child abuse laws should cover cases of doctored images of children: “We are seeing criminals deliberately training AI on real victims,” says IWF CEO.
“Children who have been abused in the past are being put into new situations because someone, somewhere wants to see it,” concluded Susie Hargreaves.
