The Mexican government confirmed this Thursday the death of at least 27 people as a result of the passage of Hurricane Otis. Four people are reported missing after the storm, which is one of the worst to hit the country in the Americas.
Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said, as quoted by Reuters, that the country was working to restore power supplies and repair the damage caused by the Category 5 hurricane.
The hurricane tore off roofs, flooded roads and destroyed communications systems. The setbacks have hampered the work of support resources. About 8,400 members of the Mexican armed forces are helping clear the debris.
Classes have been canceled for the second day in a row.
