Civil defense recorded 98 incidents, mainly in the Northern and Central regions.

Civil Protection recorded from 00:00 this Saturday to 14:30 a total of 98 incidents related to bad weather on the Portuguese mainland, mainly in the northern and central regions, without any reports of casualties or serious property damage.

A source from the National Emergency Management and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) told Lusa that reported incidents include road clearing (36 cases), falling trees (29 cases) and minor floods (15 cases).

The most affected regions were the North – 59 cases and the Center – 22, the same source indicated.

A total of 98 bad weather events on the Portuguese mainland mobilized 306 operational staff and 119 ground staff, according to Civil Protection.

When asked about the impact of these events, an ANEPC source assured that “there are no reports of injuries or large materials,” adding that there is also no main road closed to traffic.

The same source repeated the warning of worsening weather this afternoon and evening today in the northern and central regions, as well as worsening weather on Sunday in the south of mainland Portugal.

On Friday, Civil Protection warned of the possibility of flooding due to an expected worsening of the weather situation over the weekend, especially in the north and center of the continent.

Speaking to reporters at the ANEPC headquarters in Carnachida, Oeiras, Lisbon district, National Commander André Fernandes said that Civil Protection had decided to raise the level of readiness to the orange level by the end of Sunday. in 16 subregions of education, with a particular focus on the north, center, Lisbon and Tagus Valley on the mainland.

At stake is the Celine trough, associated with a cold frontal surface that will affect mainland Portugal on Saturday afternoon, with persistent rainfall, sometimes heavy and accompanied by thunderstorms, mainly in the coastal areas of Minho and Douro, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere said . According to the IPMA, the areas of Porto, Vila Real, Viana do Castelo, Aveiro and Braga are under an orange warning today due to the forecast of “persistent and sometimes heavy rain, which may be accompanied by thunderstorms”, a situation expected until 03.03 . :00 on Sunday.

From today until Sunday, the rest of mainland Portugal, namely Bragança, Viseu, Évora, Guarda, Faro, Setubal, Santarem, Lisbon, Leiria, Beja, Castelo Branco, Coimbra and Portalegre, will be under a yellow warning due to rain forecast .

In addition to the rainfall warning, the districts of Porto, Faro, Setúbal, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leria, Beja, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga are under a yellow warning for rough seas this Saturday.

According to the IPMA, a yellow warning has also been issued for winds in Porto, Vila Real, Viana do Castelo, Aveiro and Braga for today.

An orange warning is issued by IPMA whenever there is a moderate or high risk meteorological situation, and a yellow warning is issued when there is a risk situation for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation.
