Palombar is dedicated to the conservation of nature and rural heritage. It implements several projects in the northeast of Trás-os-Montes, where the social aspect is never forgotten, and promotes environmental education within the community through volunteer programs, ultimately helping to resettle people in a very old area.
“Palombar’s work began with the restoration and revival of traditional dovecotes,” he explained CM Americano Guedes, biologist. “They were mainly intended to feed young pigeons because in the past people fed on these birds. Pigeon droppings were used to fertilize the fields,” says Luis Ribeiro, an ecotourism technician who explains CM the importance of the Centinelas project: “We are very close to the Douro International Natural Park, which is one of the largest nesting sites for the Egyptian vulture in Europe. We have a small colony of these black vultures that are coming to the surface and have established themselves in this area.”
Palombar’s mission is to help local communities protect and appreciate nature. There are several ways you can help the association and its work. “Be a member, explore our website (palombar.pt), donate, appreciate our projects and share them on social networks,” says Miguel Novoa, vice president of Palombar.
