A 37-year-old mother who abducted her baby daughter from a Faro hospital has been released with a no-contact order after attending her first court hearing.
“I didn’t want to give up the girl without at least trying. I couldn’t be without the girl because I was already without my boy. If I had to, I would do it again,” he said.
The woman was a drug addict and the girl was under child protection. Because he was afraid that the child would be placed in an orphanage, as happened with his first child, he took advantage of the visit, put the child in a basket and ran away.
In statements to CM, explained that a friend gave him a ride when he managed to pick up the girl from the hospital, but he did not know his purpose. “He ended up in a role I didn’t want him to play,” he explains.
The woman decided to give birth in a private hospital so she could eventually keep the baby, but now admits she wasted “€3,500.”
The daughter, who was found by judicial police on Tuesday, is doing well.
