The Porto Court of Appeal decided to change the sentence of Claudio Pereira, who in April received the maximum sentence (25 years) for killing a young man and attempting to kill another in the Praxe Paredes bar. The accused will now serve 21 years and six months in prison for the crime committed in May last year. Judges took into account Claudio’s age at the time of the events: he was 17 years old when he shot 26-year-old Diogo Pereira in the head and also tried to kill his friend. The crime took place in the establishment’s toilet. The killer and victims did not know each other and did not exchange words on the night of the crime. The magistrates also understood that the crimes were committed on the same night, which in itself does not indicate criminal propensity on the part of the defendant, who had no criminal record.
