Almost 200 incidents from 00:00 to 7:00 in the north and center.

Civil Protection recorded 199 incidents related to bad weather in the Northern and Central regions from 00:00 to 07:00 this Thursday, most of which were tree falls, with no casualties or serious damage.

Speaking to Lusa, Commander Paulo Santos of the National Emergency Management and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) said the northern region, mainly the areas of Porto and Viseu, was hardest hit.

“In the Northern region we had a total of 145 incidents, 116 of which were tree falls, and in the Central region we had 54, of which 42 were also tree falls associated with high winds,” he said.

According to Paulo Santos, seven incidents were also recorded in the Lisbon region of Vale do Tejo.

“In addition to falling trees, minor floods and falls of buildings were also recorded, but in smaller numbers,” he said.

According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), mainland Portugal is today experiencing the effects of the Ciarão Depression, with sometimes strong winds, rough seas and precipitation.
