Spanish doctors launch new mission of free consultations in Cape Verde

Spanish doctors from Africa Avanza carried out a further 26 free consultations in nine days on the island of Sal in Cape Verde, marking the group’s 49th mission to the archipelago, the association said in a statement this Thursday.

According to the Association for Cooperation and Development, the 49th mission of the Africa Avanza program “Solidarity of Cape Verdean Doctors” took place on the island of Sal from October 21 to 29 “successfully and with great intensity.”

The team, consisting of a general surgeon, an anesthesiologist and three operating room nurses, performed 26 free operations at the Ramiro Figueira Hospital, “of which six were laparoscopic cholecystectomies and two emergency operations, including a child with acute peritonitis who was admitted to the hospital.” “.

Volunteers, it goes on to say, transported more than 50 kilograms of materials to a hospital on the country’s most tourist island and donated clothes to families in need.

The association also announced that it is already preparing the next, 50th mission, which will be dedicated to pediatric surgery and will take place from November 10 to 19.

In August, the institution reported that its clinic Solidário de Saúde Infantil provided more than 1,200 free consultations in Sale in the first quarter of this year, and 52% of children served were under 6 years of age.

According to the same source, the most common diagnoses are infectious and parasitic diseases (21%), respiratory diseases (20%) and dermatological infections (18%).

África Avanza is a non-governmental organization created by Spanish doctors dedicated to humanitarian causes on the African continent. She began her work in 2012 in Cape Verde with dozens of trips to the archipelago and thousands of free consultations for people with limited resources.
