An earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale in Nepal has killed at least 69 people in the northwestern mountainous region, Nepalese authorities said Friday as they expect more casualties.
Nepal’s National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center measured the quake at magnitude 6.4 and indicated its epicenter was in Jajarkot, which is about 400 kilometers northeast of Nepal’s capital Kathmandu.
An earthquake rocked northwestern Nepal and authorities said at least 69 people were killed and dozens injured as rescue teams searched mountain villages.
According to a police spokesman, Namaraj Bhattarai, quoted by Reuters, said the shock killed at least 35 people in Rukum district.
