Britain’s ‘loneliest’ sheep rescued from cliff in remote coastal area

A group of five farmers have rescued a sheep known as “Britain’s loneliest” in a remote coastal area of Scotland, reports Sunday. BBC.

The sheep, now named Fiona, was trapped at the foot of the Cromarty Firth cliffs for at least two years. Five farmers found him in a cave and lifted him up a steep slope 250 meters high. One of them, Cammie Wilson assured BBC that Fiona is in “excellent health” except for being “overweight.” “It was quite difficult to get him up this slope,” he emphasized.

The initiative for the mission came from Cammy Wilson himself, following negative comments about farmers’ perceived inertia in saving sheep. “I just didn’t want to see misinformation online and comments from people who didn’t know anything and said farmers don’t care,” he said.

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Scotland said Fiona needed a hair clipping and would be “taken to a specialist home to rest and recover.”
