The trial of Ines Yolanda, a 34-year-old woman accused of qualified murder and desecration of the corpse of her son, began this morning in the Aveiro court.
The judicial police inspectors were questioned in the morning and the meeting was adjourned for lunch. It will resume at 14:00.
Let us remind you that the crime was committed on July 25 last year in Mealhada. Inez, already over 37 weeks pregnant, gave birth at home alone. After the birth, she placed her son, naked and bloody, in a pillowcase and three garbage bags. He went to shower, got ready and between 1:30 and 2:30 p.m. placed the newborn in a dumpster about 170 meters from the house. The child was found dead at 6:30 p.m.
During the first session, Ines decided to speak in front of the panel of judges. Despite this, the defendant’s defense requested that this happen behind closed doors, and the presiding judge accepted this request.
According to the prosecutor’s indictment, the woman, who already has two children ages 10 and 14, never intended to keep the child. Neither her family nor friends knew she was pregnant.
