A Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) fan suffered serious injuries after being stabbed during clashes between fans in Milan, Italy, on Monday evening before the Champions League game between Milan and PSG, Italian police said, as quoted by Reuters.
According to police, the victim, a 34-year-old Frenchman, was stabbed twice in the leg and was taken to Milan’s Policlinico hospital for treatment.
The man was attacked as a group of Milan fans clashed with PSG fans shortly after 0:00 local time (around 1:00 am in Lisbon) in the city’s canal area, famous for its nightclubs.
During the riots, two police officers were also injured while beating French fans with batons in an attempt to restore order.
This is not the first time something like this has happened on the eve of a European football match. In September, a Newcastle fan from England was stabbed in the Italian city before a match between Milan and Newcastle, also in the Champions League.
Milan will host PSG at the San Siro Stadium on Tuesday in the fourth round of the Champions League group stage.
