The driver and passengers of a public bus in Sao Paulo rescued a woman who had been taken hostage by a criminal who intended to rape her on a street in the Vila das Merces district, in the southern zone of this Brazilian city. The attempted rape occurred on October 23, but it became known only this Wednesday, when footage of the victim’s rescue began to spread on social networks.
Driver Paulo Jorge de Souza was passing through the area and noticed that a man was forcibly approaching a woman who was alone. He saw her being brutally pressed against the wall. Initially thinking the couple was fighting, the driver opened the car door and yelled at the man to stop.
The man did not react, and he and the woman then began to walk up the hill, holding each other, but the bus driver was surprised by the way the couple behaved, and it seemed to him that the woman was being led, actually dragged, by force. As the alleged couple turned the corner and hurried down an alley that would lead them away from the bus passengers, the driver and several passengers decided to take action.
Everyone got off the bus and ran towards the couple, separating them, protecting the panicking woman and moving her away from the man. He was still arguing and tried to grab his victim again, but was stopped and put his hand in his pocket as if he was going to take up a weapon, but gave in to the number of people, many of them women, who stood in front of him. .
The driver and passengers then returned to the bus and stopped at the corner, picking up the woman safely, who, barely able to speak, said that she did not know the man and that he had a sharp object, probably a knife. , with the help of which he forced her to accompany him, ordering her to pretend to be his girlfriend in order to try to deceive the people in the collective. She also said that the perpetrator, whom the driver and passengers decided not to try to arrest so as not to put anyone else’s life in danger, told her that he was going to take her to a place where there was no one and was going to rape her.
The case was registered at the police station in the neighboring Sakoma district by the driver and passengers themselves, who interrupted their commute to work, and the police are trying to identify the culprit. There is no shortage of photographs of him, as in addition to CCTV cameras on the street, several passengers recorded everything on their mobile phones.
