The Central Civil and Criminal Court of Ponta Delgada in the Azores sentenced a man to seven years and six months in prison for crimes related to domestic violence, aggravated rape and kidnapping on the island of Santa Maria.
According to information available on the website of the Azores District Prosecutor’s Office, the accused, previously convicted of a similar crime, was now convicted “of committing, in the final form of the materials, the crime of domestic violence, another for aggravated rape and another for kidnapping with a single sentence of seven years and six months’ imprisonment.”
According to the court, “the events took place on Santa Maria Island” and the victim was his girlfriend, with whom he had a relationship between May 2022 and January 2023.”
The man was also sentenced to “the additional penalty of a ban on contact with the victim for a period of five years, as well as payment to the victim of the sum of five thousand euros as compensation for the events that occurred from May 2022 to January 2023.” says the published note.
The court applied the punishment “taking into account the gravity of the facts, the personality of the defendant, direct and intense intent” and “high requirements for general and special prevention”, taking into account that “the acts were committed during the period of suspension of execution of the sentence also for committing the crime of domestic violence “
The defendant awaits a final and non-appealable decision, subject to the application of a preventive measure in the form of preventive detention.
