The Public Prosecutor’s Office (MP) has launched an investigation into the incidents that occurred at the Extraordinary General Assembly of the Porto Football Club, which was suspended on Monday, the Porto District Prosecutor General’s Office announced on Tuesday.
“Taking into account the events that occurred at the Porto AG stadium, which began on November 13, which received wide publicity in the media and are likely to constitute part of criminal offenses of a public nature, it has been decided to open an investigation, which is established in the DIAP [Departamento de Investigação e Ação Penal] Porto prosecutor’s office,” the body signaled.
Dragons General Assembly Council (MAG) president José Lourenço Pinto suspended work on Monday after a tense main meeting and confrontation between members, who were focused on discussing a new charter for the deputy – national football champions, but were replaced at the last minute due to a large turnout location.
The extraordinary general meeting was due to start at 21:00 in the Dragau Stadium, which seats almost 400 people, far fewer than the thousands of participants gathered nearby, with MAG moving work to the Arena Dragau pavilion, which seats more than 2,000 spectators in the games rooms days.
The main meeting resumed after 10:30 p.m., but a short time later several people left the venue due to arguments in the stands, as evidenced by videos posted on social media and reports from participants who managed to enter.
The work was then suspended and rescheduled for November 20, at 21:00, at the Dragao Arena, with the management of FC Porto condemning the disrespect on Tuesday, assuring that it would use “the means at its disposal to identify the persons responsible for the attacks and will mobilize public authorities” with a view to initiating disciplinary proceedings.
A few hours later, the CNID – Association of Sports Journalists reported that shortly before the Porto Georgia match, attempts were made by fans to coerce journalists.
The hypothetical adoption of electronic and postal voting, a minimum senior membership of 15 years instead of the current 10 to run for president, or access to voting rights after two continuous years as a member are some of the changes being discussed.
The document, prepared by the Supreme Council, the advisory body of FC Porto, defends the retention of the majority of SAD’s share capital in the face of the possible arrival of new investors, and also expands business opportunities between the owners of the governing bodies and the “dragons” while they protect the “explicit interests of the club.”
Any change to the articles of association requires approval by a two-thirds vote and comes into force the day after the publication of the public act, which must be carried out within 30 days in the Commercial Register.
