Midfielder Matheus Nunez has been ruled out of Portugal’s squad for their final two Euro 2024 qualifiers due to physical problems, the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) said on Wednesday.
“After undergoing tests, Matheus Nunez has been declared clinically unfit to play in the national team’s two games against Liechtenstein and Iceland. The player will no longer travel to Zurich this afternoon along with the rest of the national delegation,” the FPF said in a statement.
The Manchester City midfielder, who no longer trained this Wednesday, became the fifth casualty in Roberto Martinez’s team after the injured Pepe, Rafael Lean and Nelson Semedo, who was replaced by Rafael Guerreiro, as well as Diogo Dalot for personal reasons.
Raphael Guerreiro and Joao Mario, making their AA debuts, were called up to replace Nelson Semedo and Diogo Dalot.
In the Euro 2024 qualifying stage, the national team, already qualified, will face Liechtenstein on Thursday at 19:45 (Lisbon time) in Vaduz, and three days later against Iceland at the José Alvalade Stadium at the same hour. .
