Former Dutch international Marc Overmars was suspended this Thursday for a year for sending sexual images to female employees while he was sporting director of Ajax.
This Thursday, the Dutch Court of Sports decided to ban the former striker from any role in football for two years, one of which was given a suspended sentence for behavior that he admitted he regrets.
“When considering the appropriate sanction, the disciplinary committee took into account that the matter had received wide publicity to the detriment of the accused,” the decision can be read, which also notes that the “inappropriate conduct” continued for a long time and had several cases identified.
Overmars left the Amsterdam club in February 2022, but a month later signed a contract with Belgian Antwerp.
The former striker, who was a European champion with Ajax and also played for Arsenal and Barcelona, had been in charge of the club for ten years when he resigned.
