“Unanimously, in the best interests of the club, this council has decided to withdraw the proposal to change the statutes, thereby helping to pacify the rift that is being created in the Porto family.” This is how the FC Porto Supreme Council (CS) put an end to a rule change that had caused controversy in Porto.
The bylaw amendment was due to be voted on last Monday at an extraordinary general meeting, but the meeting was postponed due to scenes of violence – a member speaking was assaulted and eventually removed from the Dragao arena. Now GA needs to be cancelled.
“The conditioning created for the above-mentioned AG and the artificially inflated hype created by the media and social networks led to the unfortunate incidents that we witnessed, turning an important AG into a moment of burning primaries,” complains the CC.
