Mozambique with economic growth of almost 6% in the third quarter

Mozambique’s real gross domestic product (GDP) rose 5.92% in the third quarter, up 4.9% since the start of the year, the National Institute of Statistics (INE) said on Friday.

According to the Quarterly National Accounts report, Mozambique’s real GDP at market prices in the third quarter was influenced by the primary sector, which grew by 12.9%, “with a greater emphasis on the mining sector, with a deviation of 43.18%.”

It was followed by Agriculture, Livestock, Hunting, Forestry and Forestry, which grew by 3.53% during the same period.

The 5.92% growth in the third quarter also compares with 4.67% in the second quarter and 4.17% in the first quarter. In the third quarter of 2022, Mozambique’s real GDP grew by 3.65%.

According to INE, Mozambique’s real GDP grew by 5.73% in the second quarter of 2018, the highest until the third quarter of this year.

According to the Bank of Mozambique, this “acceleration of economic activity” in the country is the result of “increased production of liquefied natural gas (LNG), which contributed 45% to economic growth.

This, the institution added in an official statement, “is in a context that also highlights the recovery of the manufacturing industry after four consecutive quarters of negative performance.”
