French senator Joël Guerriot was detained and questioned by police on suspicion of drugging a lawmaker in order to rape her, the French press reports.
The home and office of center-right politician Les Indépendants were searched this week.
A French prosecutor told AFP that Guerriot was questioned for “injecting a person against his will with a substance that could alter judgment and control of actions with the aim of committing rape.”
The identity of the woman who filed the complaint has not been revealed, but it is known that she was a member of the French parliament. The victim reportedly became ill after drinking a drink at the suspect’s home.
A medical examination revealed that the woman had ecstasy, a drug that was also found in Guerrio’s home.
